The Journey Begins - Sunday, April 11 to Sunday, April 18, 2027

Located just a few hours’ drive from major cities like San Luis Potosí and Ciudad Valles, La Huasteca Potosina is a vast, wild region—over 20,000 square miles—so remote and off the radar that many travelers (and even Mexicans themselves) have never heard of it. To us, it is one of the most breathtaking, underrated, and least-visited places in the country.
This is a place for those who crave connection—to nature, to stillness, and to each other. Think crowd-free trails, lush green jungle landscapes, and crystal-clear waterfalls that invite you in again and again. It’s the kind of place where days slow down, conversations deepen, and shared moments become lasting memories.

Getting to a place this special takes a little intention—and that’s part of the journey. We begin in the colorful and eclectic town of Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, just 20 minutes from the Guadalajara airport. It’s a welcoming and easy place to arrive, filled with excellent restaurants, galleries, museums, and artisan shops, many set along a lively pedestrian walkway perfect for strolling and people-watching.
This is where our group gathers—whether reconnecting with familiar faces or meeting new kindred spirits. We’ll settle into one of the area’s charming boutique inns, our home-away-from-home before heading out on our adventure… and a place we’ll return to for one final night together.

Into the Wild Heart of La Huasteca Potosina
The next morning, our van will pick us up and we’ll begin our journey toward the historic city of San Luis Potosí. We’ll spend one night here, with time to wander among its elegant plazas and beautifully preserved 16th-century architecture—a lovely cultural pause before we head deep into nature.

From there, we enter the wild heart of La Huasteca Potosina—a landscape defined by water, stone, and time. Waterfalls cascade into turquoise pools, rivers wind through jungle canyons, and the entire region feels alive.

This is the finest example of karst topography in Mexico. Millions of years ago, this land lay beneath the sea, formed largely of limestone. As the earth shifted and mountains rose, the terrain folded and transformed, creating a dramatic natural playground of:
  • Hidden caves and underground rivers
  • Sinkholes and crystal-clear natural pools
  • Towering cliffs and narrow, jungle-lined canyons
The limestone is what gives the water its striking turquoise color, while constant flow keeps it impossibly clear and vibrant.
Once we arrive, we’ll settle into four full days of exploration—intentionally timed for midweek, when the crowds thin and the magic of the place feels even more personal. This is where the experience deepens—where shared adventure naturally brings people together.
Expect a week of joyful immersion in a vast natural wonderland. We’ll swim, float, climb, and play—swinging from ropes into brilliant blue pools, drifting along gentle rivers, and discovering hidden corners of this extraordinary region.
One unforgettable morning will be spent at Puente del Dios (God’s Bridge), a partially collapsed cave that forms a natural skylight over a glowing turquoise pool. Sunlight streams through the opening, illuminating the water in a way that feels almost otherworldly. We’ll swim through caves, pass beneath rock arches, and experience the quiet thrill of moving through a landscape shaped over millions of years. Moments of quiet connection are woven throughout the journey.
Surreal Beauty & Quiet Wonder
One unforgettable evening, we’ll set out at sunset on a gradual hike along a paved trail with numerous long switchbacks, leading us up into the jungle. Our destination is one of the most extraordinary natural wonders in the world—a vast vertical cave shaft, over 180 feet wide at the top and plunging more than 1,200 feet into the earth. As dusk settles, we’ll witness thousands of parrots and swifts spiraling back into the cave for the night—a mesmerizing, almost hypnotic spectacle best experienced in shared silence and awe.

For two nights, we’ll be based near the misty village of Xilitla, a place that feels suspended between worlds. From here, we’ll explore the extraordinary Las Pozas, the only surrealist garden in Latin America.
Created by Scottish poet and artist Edward James, this dreamlike landscape unfolds within the rainforest—towering sculptures rise from lush greenery, staircases lead to nowhere, and structures feel both ancient and unfinished, as if imagination itself took physical form.
We’ll also visit the museum of his close friend and fellow surrealist, Leonora Carrington, adding another layer of artistic and cultural richness to the experience.
This is coffee-growing country, and the scent of roasting beans often drifts through the village air, mingling with mist that rolls in and out of the hills. There’s something deeply atmospheric here—quiet, reflective, and just a little otherworldly.

We will slowly come out of the jungle and to lessen the drive time between sites, we will move to an inn in the town of Ciudad Valles for one night before starting our journey back. Here we can more easily spend our time playing at the beautiful sites near there instead of driving longer distances between them.

The Closing Circle
As the week draws to a close, we’ll make our way back to San Luis Potosí one night, and then to Tlaquepaque for one final night together—time to share stories, laughter, and the kind of connection that only comes from traveling deeply in a place like this.
By now, strangers have become friends, and moments have become memories.
In the morning, we’ll say our goodbyes—but the feeling of this place, and the community we’ve created together, will linger long after the journey ends.
