Where the Desert Meets the Sea

Few places on earth combine wild desert mountains, turquoise seas, and remote coastal villages as beautifully as Baja California Sur. This week-long journey is designed for travelers who crave both comfort and adventure—an experience that reveals the magic of the peninsula through sea, sand, and hidden mountain landscapes.

Sunday, March 14 to Saturday, March 20, 2027
Our adventure begins in the vibrant waterfront city of
La Paz, the charming capital of Baja Sur, the southern half of the almost 1,000 mile long peninsula, and known for its golden sunsets.

The lively malecón stretches 3.5 miles along the Sea and is full of artwork, and the area is access to some of the most spectacular marine environments in the world.

Sailing to Paradise  From La Paz we board our friends, Shannon and Rob's,  private sailboat—our floating home for the day—and set out across the brilliant waters of the Sea of Cortez, once called “the aquarium of the world.” Our destination is the legendary Playa Balandra, widely considered one of the most beautiful beaches on the planet.
Here we anchor in shallow, crystal-clear water and spend the day swimming, and snorkeling among tropical fish. Our  chef prepares a sumptuous seafood feast--
fresh ceviche, grilled fish, and other Baja specialties—served al fresco!

The Living Reef of Cabo Pulmo
Next we travel north to the small fishing village of Cabo Pulmo, gateway to one of the most successful marine conservation stories on earth. The Cabo Pulmo National Park protects the only living coral reef in the Gulf of California. Snorkeling here reveals a vibrant underwater world of swirling schools of fish, rays, and perhaps even sea turtles gliding through the warm waters. We will stay in this little village for two nights.

Into the Mountains: Leaving the coast behind, we venture inland into the rugged wilderness of Sierra de la Laguna Biosphere Reserve. This mountainous oasis rises dramatically above the desert and shelters forests, wildlife, and hidden waterways. Here we hike through dramatic canyon landscapes to reach natural hot springs tucked deep in the mountains. Later we kayak across a secluded desert lake—an almost surreal landscape of still water framed by granite peaks and wild Baja vegetation.

The Road Back Through History  Our final journey takes us through the historic mining town of El Triunfo, where 19th-century chimneys and restored buildings tell the story of Baja’s colorful past. After wandering its charming streets, exploring the Cowboy museum (history of the Californios - the first cowboys in the new world), the Mining museum,  and enjoying a final meal together, we return to La Paz—our hearts full of sea air, desert sunsets, and the unforgettable spirit of Baja.

This is Baja at its most magical: sailing turquoise waters, snorkeling vibrant reefs, staying in a tiny village with nights of  star-filled skies, and discovering secret places where desert and sea meet.
This adventure was inspired, in part, by our Founder's Circle.
